| Having attended a Dessert with Boaz, Sandy Elliott could not stop thinking about the fact that 99% of orphans in the world cannot be adopted. She had always believed adoption to be the answer to the orphan crisis. Longing to understand more, she joined Orphan Advocate Training. Through her training journey, Sandy’s eyes were opened to the many reasons—social, political, religious, financial, and more—a child becomes an orphan and the impacts these things have on their ability to thrive in their home culture. Her heart was especially grieved that so many orphans age out of children’s homes and institutions without any training in life skills or how to navigate a great, big world. Learning all of this drew her nearer to God, forcing her into dependence on Him, because she knew two things to be true: We serve a God whose heart is for the vulnerable and in need. He sees every orphan and loves them. We, as God’s children, cannot overcome the orphan crisis on our own. We need God’s help as we show His love to orphaned children. Now a fully certified Orphan Advocate, God has led Sandy to continue partnering with The Boaz Project in a very special way. As an Orphan Wish List Coordinator, Sandy is actively raising awareness and organizing campaigns with churches, schools, and more to provide Christmas and birthday gifts, school supplies, and uniforms for every child in our partner homes. She is passionate about giving dignity to the children and their caregivers, as they follow after their dreams without fear of lacking resources. When asked what she would say to someone who is considering Orphan Advocate Training, Sandy said, “It’s the very best way I’ve found to learn more about the orphan crisis. Be open to where God takes you with it! You will come out of it knowing a lot more about orphans, their needs, and how you can help them than when you started.” You can invest in orphan advocacy today by signing up for more information at boaz.pro/oat |
