Prior to coming into our Kenyan partner home, Alex had never stepped foot in a school.
His mother, having not received a formal education and suffering from mental illness, struggled to maintain a consistent job and was unable to provide the care Alex needed, let alone afford the steep school fees.
Alex and his older brother, John, came to our partner home in 2021, seeking a place of safety and security. Upon meeting Alex, our partners could see that he was incredibly bright. His bubbly, engaging personality endeared him to everyone in the home immediately. They enrolled the boys in school and were hopeful that they would experience growth and reach their full potential.
Soon after he began school, Alex’s teachers noticed that he had a natural aptitude for learning and quickly rose to the top of his class. They reached out to our partners to share Alex’s success and recommend that he interview at a prestigious elementary school in the community.
Alex, of course, aced his interview! He has been attending this school since 2022 and has continued to excel beyond our partners’ expectations. His house father at the time, Joel, said of Alex, “He is going to do something unique and special in this world.”
I tell you Alex’s story to illustrate just how valuable and life-changing education can be, especially for an orphan. The first chapters of Alex’s life were marked by poverty, neglect, and trauma, but God knew this would not be his narrative forever.
Alex is now surrounded by a loving family and community who believe in his potential and long to see him shine. He is in a safe environment, where he no longer has to be concerned for his own survival and can use his gifted mind to focus on his education, as well as simply being a kid. It is in this beloved place that his caregivers and teachers were able to see what he could accomplish and find a school that would challenge and grow him.

The story of Alex reminds me that education doesn’t just teach facts, it opens doors to a completely new future. This challenges me to see how my support, prayers, and actions can help break cycles of poverty, give children hope, and unlock the potential God has placed in them.
A big thanks to the givers, The Boaz Project and all believers.
The truth is, that many gifted children are suffering for luck of direction. They are on the crossroads but if given chance to proper care they can do everything just like Philippians 4:13 . Thanks for Boaz Project May the lord bless you for your obedience to the voice of God.
From Alex’s story I reflect on the story of Moses where he was orphaned as baby and was found by Pharaoh’s daughter who raised him as her own and this chance provided Moses with a privileged upbringing and the opportunity to later lead the Israelites out of slavery. This shows how a single opportunity can change a person’s destiny, connecting with the story of Alex,he has been given a chance to build a better future
This story helps me see the impact of providing support to to care givers whether it be financial, practical or in the form of training so orphan children can benefit. This story shows me that if it wasn’t for the partnership of individuals and the Boaz Project staff, Alex would not have gotten the education he needs to position himself to have a better quality of life above the poverty line. This then transitions to Alex being able to be salt and light for Jesus in other parts of the world . Coming to the caregivers that The Boaz Project supports is the beginning of equipping boys and girls through training, love and care to have an impact in the lives of people.
I hadn’t focus on the education opportunity in pubic. or community schools that may only have come through the caregivers. I assumed that only the caregivers where providing education training for the boys and girls
It is stories like Alex’s that remind us that God can work in wonderous ways to help people that under ordinary circumstances would not excel and be a light to others. God can put the right people in place, such as caregiver families and donors to create a beautiful life for a child that did not have a chance even though the potential was there. Inspiring stories such as Alex’s is a reminder that everything we do to help others will be multiplied beyond our expectations and there are so many children who are just waiting to flourish when given the chance.
Dear Alex. I had to comment since I met Alex this August. What a fine young boy. Reading of his lack of home support, no opportunity for school, and then his transition to the orphanage was so gratifying. To think that his natural aptitude for learning was discovered and is being accommodated is wonderful. He no longer has to be concerned for his own survival but can use his mind fully to learn and become what God intends, and also is able to enjoy being a child without the burden of how is physical needs will be met.
How beautiful it is that those in the partner home saw the potential in Alex and helped to bring it out even more! How encouraging it must have been to Alex for someone to acknowledge the goodness in him, despite his previous circumstances, and put in effort to make room for him to participate in a prestigious school. It is such a good reminder to always be looking for ways to bless others and enrich their lives.
I know Alex personally after a trip to Kenya. I love that kids like him are given opportunities to get educated and to be introduced to our Lord and savior. God has given us the responsibility to reach each child one at a time.
The story of Alex is one that is uplifting and inspiring but also points to the importance of education and the long term benefits attending school can help a child’s future. Alex will have a future only because people stepped forward to advocate for him. People have prayed for children like him. God hears our prayers!
