“Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.”
Psalm 1:1-3, NIV
There are some people you meet who exude the joy and righteousness of the Lord. Abraham, a young man living at the El Shaddai Boys’ Home, is one of those people.
A few weeks ago, a small team traveled to Limuru, Kenya to work on ironing out more details of a construction project. While meetings were being held, I had the privilege of spending much time with the boys of El Shaddai. When first meeting the boys, there was one young man who walked in quietly and sat down. Upon his arrival, Pastor Steve chuckled and pointed this young man out. He said, “This is Abraham.” Then turned to Abraham and said, “Stand up, Abraham, and show them your height!” We all laughed at this request as Abraham shyly stood, but his height was something to admire.
I am happy to tell you that there is much more to Abraham than his height. He is truly a man who loves the Lord. Abraham is strong and gentle. He is compassionate and loving. If you stand back and observe all the boys during games, Abraham can usually be found with one of the younger (and much smaller) boys. Abraham is a young man who is protective and attentive to all those around him.
I believe that Abraham’s character is full of goodness because of his deep love for the Lord. He worships God with all of his being and it is evident that there is a strong connection. Just like a tree planted by a stream, Abraham’s roots are deep in the Lord and he is fruitful.
I am unsure of the story that brought Abraham to El Shaddai but I do know that God has not let it go in vain and has done a great work in him. His story is one of redemption and healing, which is far from over. Abraham has leaned into the teachings of Jesus learned from the caregivers in his life and flourished.
If you never have the chance to go and meet Abraham in person, I want you to know that he is a man who is blessed and whose ways will prosper because he is steadfast in the Lord. His smile is radiant and his joy is contagious. He is a young man who stands tall, both in character and physical height.
Abraham is living proof–your support of The Boaz Project creates life-change for Abraham and orphans like him, helping them accomplish all that God has planned for them. For this, we thank you.
Meet Abraham.
